New York University (NYU) has secured the top position in the United States for hosting the highest number of international students and sending the most US students abroad, according to the annual Open Doors survey.

In the academic year 2023-24, NYU welcomed over 27,247 international students, far surpassing its closest competitors. Simultaneously, the university facilitated study abroad opportunities for 4,354 US students, cementing its status as a leader in global education.

NYU President Linda G. Mills highlighted the university’s dedication to international learning, stating, “This ranking is a testament to NYU’s commitment to global education, research, and engagement. Increasing study away opportunities is a top priority as these experiences prepare students for 21st-century challenges while enhancing their career outcomes.”

NYU’s extensive global network includes three degree-granting campuses in New York, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai, along with 13 academic centres across cities like London, Paris, Berlin, and Sydney. The university’s global presence ensures its students gain significant personal, academic, and professional benefits through immersive international experiences.

Beyond academics, NYU students studying abroad actively contribute to local communities. For instance, Spencer Mulvaney, a third-year student volunteering in Argentina, described his work as a meaningful way to give back while connecting with diverse communities. Similarly, Gabriella Lawal, studying in Paris, organised events to support refugees, reflecting NYU students’ commitment to social responsibility abroad.

NYU’s leadership in international education underscores its role as a global university, fostering cross-cultural understanding and preparing students for a connected world. With its unrivalled global reach, NYU continues to attract international talent and expand opportunities for US students worldwide.
