The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, has opened applications for the Destination Australia Scholarship for Semester 1, 2025. Funded by the Australian government, the scholarship aims to alleviate the financial burden for international students and encourage them to study in Australia. Indian students wishing to pursue postgraduate coursework in Mathematics, Science, Agriculture, or Animal Sciences are eligible to apply before the deadline on 20 January 2025.

The scholarship offers a value of AUD $15,000 per year and prioritises students facing financial hardship, those demonstrating academic excellence, and individuals from rural or remote backgrounds. Eligible candidates must be international students with a full-time offer from UQ, whether as new enrollees or alumni applying for a different programme.

Applicants must submit a 300-word personal statement, along with proof of academic merit, which will be assessed as part of the selection criteria. To be considered, students must apply for one of the following programmes in 2025: Master of Animal Science, Master of Agricultural Science, or Master of Agribusiness.

In addition to this scholarship, UQ is celebrating recent success in research funding, with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) awarding over AUD $29 million in grants to UQ researchers. The university is also preparing 11 students for the New Colombo Plan (NCP) Scholarships, enabling them to study and intern across the Indo-Pacific region in 2025, with destinations including Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan.

This scholarship presents a great opportunity for students in India and beyond to pursue their postgraduate studies in Australia while benefiting from financial support.
