India and the UK have taken a significant step forward in higher education collaboration, with Coventry University Group and the Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) signing a strategic partnership agreement. The collaboration aims to expand global research opportunities through a dual PhD degree programme, offering students in both countries access to world-class academic and industry resources.

The newly launched programme will allow doctoral scholars to be jointly supervised by faculty from both institutions, integrating them into a global network of researchers. The initiative emphasises real-world impact, supporting joint research projects, student mobility, and faculty exchange programmes.

Professor Richard Dashwood, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research at Coventry University, stated, “This collaboration reflects our commitment to global research excellence. By co-creating knowledge, we are preparing students to address critical global challenges.”

The programme covers key research areas such as sustainability, water management, agroecology, future transport, autonomous systems, healthcare, engineering, business, and the arts. Scholars will benefit from shared research infrastructure, cross-border funding opportunities, and joint applications for research grants.

GITAM’s Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor KNS Acharya, highlighted the importance of the agreement, saying, “This collaboration is a blueprint for co-developing solutions to the world’s most pressing issues. By aligning our research capabilities, we’re enabling innovation and meaningful societal change.”

The agreement also supports faculty development through joint publications and collaborative funding bids, while boosting student employability via cross-cultural learning and Coventry University’s global industry ties.

The initiative promises an enriched academic experience, dual accreditation, and exposure to international research practices for students in India and the UK. It marks a major step forward in India-UK educational ties and innovation-led partnerships.
