Medical aspirants considering studying in the Philippines should read the advisory issued by the Embassy of India in Manila. Students were informed through an embassy notice that they should carefully consider continuing their medical course in the Philippines.

The notification states, “Indian students and parents are once again advised that before opting for any medical programme in the Philippines, they should consider the risk of losing their hard-earned money or jeopardising their future career prospects.”

This advisory was issued in response to various queries about the amendment to the Philippine Medical Act of 1959.

Several reports have stated that the Philippines has amended the Philippine Medical Act of 1959, with claims that the amendment would benefit Indian students by allowing them to register and practise medicine in the country.

However, the advisory from the embassy clarified that, to date, the Philippine government has not provided any official information about changes to the Medical Act of 1959.
“The Embassy has recently received letters from private individuals forwarding an article about the amendment of the Act. The Embassy would like to emphasise that it has not received any official communication from the Philippine Government/Authorities regarding this matter.”
