Germany has announced the opening of applications for the prestigious DESY Summer Student Programme 2025, scheduled to take place from 22 July to 11 September. The programme, hosted by DESY, one of Germany’s leading national research centres, offers undergraduate students an unparalleled opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research.

The eight-week programme invites applications from students specialising in physics, engineering, computing, or related fields. Participants will work on research projects across three key areas: Elementary Particle Physics & Accelerators, Photon Science, and Astroparticle Physics. The projects encompass diverse activities, including experimental equipment handling, software development, and scientific computing.

To be eligible, students must have completed at least three years of full-time studies in physics or related disciplines. The programme primarily targets those pursuing or about to obtain a bachelor’s degree in physics. Students already holding or about to complete a master’s degree, or those who have previously participated in the programme, are not eligible.

DESY highlights that applicants must remain enrolled at their universities throughout the programme’s duration, in compliance with German employment laws.

Participants will benefit from direct mentorship by leading scientists and tailored lectures on DESY’s central research themes. The programme also includes visits to the research centre’s computer facilities, experiments, and accelerators.

To support participants, DESY provides free accommodation in its hostel and financial assistance to cover living expenses. Students will work 39 hours per week, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in a world-class research environment.

This initiative underscores Germany’s commitment to fostering international collaboration in science and technology, solidifying its position as a global hub for cutting-edge research. Applications are now open, offering aspiring scientists a unique opportunity to advance their careers.
