Since their inception in 1913, Cambridge English exams have grown to become one of the most trusted English language assessments worldwide, with over 100 million tests taken to date. The first exam, held in the UK with just three candidates, has evolved into a global standard, encompassing tests like IELTS, Linguaskill, and Cambridge English Qualifications.

Francesca Woodward, Managing Director for English at Cambridge University Press & Assessment, expressed pride in this achievement, stating, “From three candidates to 100 million exams, our growth has been driven by global recognition, trust, and innovation. It’s inspiring to see how Cambridge English has transformed lives, opening doors to jobs and university placements.”
This milestone reflects the exams’ reputation for reliability and their life-changing impact on learners worldwide.

Cambridge Engages Local Students

On 18 November, around 50 students from Cambridge’s local secondary schools visited the Cambridge Press & Assessment offices for a personal statement workshop. The session focused on building students’ self-confidence and helping them reflect on their skills and achievements.

Laura Kahwati, Education Manager in Cambridge’s International Education group, praised the students’ engagement: “Writing a personal statement is more than an application task; it’s about self-reflection and confidence-building,” she said.

Assistant General Counsel Daniel Grimwood highlighted a heartwarming moment where a previously nervous student grew in confidence during mock interviews, transitioning from short answers to articulate responses.

The workshops underline Cambridge’s commitment to nurturing young talent, reinforcing its role as a leading education hub in the UK and globally. With a century of success behind them, Cambridge English exams continue to empower learners, fostering opportunities for personal and professional growth worldwide.
