Deakin University Tops Global Sports Science Rankings for Sixth Time

Deakin University in Australia has once again secured the top position in the Shanghai Rankings Global Ranking of Sports Science Schools and Departments. This marks the sixth time the university has achieved this accolade, having first won in 2016 and again from 2021 through 2024.

Deakin’s School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, along with the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN), has been at the forefront of this success. Vice-Chancellor Professor Iain Martin acknowledged the recognition as a testament to the university’s sustained excellence in teaching, research, and innovation. “This award comes at a significant time as we celebrate Deakin’s 50th anniversary, reinforcing our status as one of Australia’s largest and most distinguished universities,” he said.

Professor Brad Aisbett, who leads the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, credited the achievement to the collaborative efforts of staff and students. He emphasised the school’s commitment to research capacity and providing students with practical experiences aligned with societal needs.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Professor Matthew Clarke, highlighted the university’s consistent leadership in sports science, noting the synergy between research and teaching as a cornerstone of Deakin’s approach. He praised the world-class research teams for their dedication to advancing knowledge in nutrition and exercise.

Deakin University’s ongoing dominance in the global sports science rankings underscores its role as a leader in education and research, further solidifying Australia’s reputation in the field on the international stage.
