France is on track to meet its ambitious target of welcoming 10,000 Indian students this academic year, as part of its broader goal to host 30,000 by 2030. Currently, 8,000 Indian students are enrolled in French institutions, with efforts underway to increase that number significantly. Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet, Consul General of France in Mumbai, expressed confidence in meeting the target, citing the appeal of affordable, high-quality education and the increasing popularity of French universities.

Philippe Maurin, the Attaché for Scientific and Academic Cooperation at the French Consulate in Mumbai, noted that France offers over 1,700 programmes in English, making it an attractive option for Indian students seeking Master’s courses. France’s relatively lower tuition fees compared to countries like the US and UK further enhance its appeal.

In addition to the growing number of students, France has introduced the Classes Internationales programme to address language barriers, offering foundation years to students with limited French proficiency. This initiative aims to ensure students are fully equipped for their academic journey in France.

As France continues to strengthen its relationship with India, further collaborations between French and Indian institutions are underway, fostering a deeper exchange of knowledge and opportunities. With growing interest, France is poised to become an increasingly popular destination for Indian students in the coming years.
