Swiss Government Announces Excellence Scholarships for 2025-26 Academic Year for Young Scholars

The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships are designed for international scholars who have commenced a PhD or Master’s degree, as well as international artists with a Bachelor’s degree.
These scholarships include Research, PhD, and Postdoctoral opportunities for postgraduate scholars across various fields.
Research scholarships can be applied for research or study at all Swiss cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences, the two federal institutes of technology, and the four research institutes listed in the table. There will be strict enforcement regarding how candidates are nominated by the academic supervisor of one of these institutions.
Selection Process
Applicants are first filtered by the relevant national authorities or Swiss diplomatic representation. Those who pass this initial screening are then evaluated by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS), which makes the final decision.
The FCS evaluates applications based on three primary criteria:
- Candidate profile
- Quality of the research project or artistic work
- Potential for future research collaborations
The FCS is composed of professors from Swiss public universities. Scholarships are awarded to students with outstanding academic and scientific achievements. The FCS will announce the results for the current scholarship cycle.
Information regarding scholarships for the 2025-26 academic year will be posted online by August 2024.
