In a bold step towards reshaping postgraduate education, the University of Leeds has announced a guaranteed industry consulting project for all students enrolling in taught master’s programmes from the 2025/26 academic year.

Open to postgraduates across all disciplines, this initiative will give international students—including those from India—a valuable opportunity to develop real-world experience, strengthen employability skills, and enhance global career readiness.

“This is a game-changing initiative for students preparing for global careers,” said Greg Miller, Deputy Director of Student Opportunity at the University of Leeds. “We’ve designed the programme to offer every student—regardless of background or subject—the chance to work on high-impact, real-world projects that enhance their CV and career direction.”

Highlighting the strengths Indian students bring, Miller added, “Indian students possess strong analytical and collaborative skills. This programme boosts their professional confidence even before graduation.”

Each student will work in small, diverse teams on consulting projects designed to solve real-world challenges in fields such as business strategy, sustainability, technology innovation, and social impact. Delivered virtually, the projects will involve collaboration across borders, giving students hands-on experience with global companies and consultants.

Pilot programme feedback reveals promising outcomes:

  • 91% of students reported greater confidence in contributing to future employers
  • 89% noted growth in essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving
  • 87% said their career clarity and awareness had improved
  • 91% gained relevant, practical work experience

One participating employer praised the programme: “The platform and framework are absolutely awesome. There’s a real feel for the client-consultant relationship.”

Located in the UK, the University of Leeds already provides extensive student support, including paid work opportunities, enterprise guidance, leadership training, and networking events. This guaranteed consulting project cements its commitment to delivering practical, career-focused education for the global workforce.
