University of Manchester Secures UK Metascience Unit Funding


The University of Manchester, England has received funding from UK Research and Innovation’s newly established Metascience Unit. The initiative aims to enhance research practices, funding allocation, and distribution across the UK.
Professor Andrew Stewart, Principal Investigator and Cognitive Science expert, highlighted the significance of this grant, stating: “This investment recognises the importance of metascience and will allow us to showcase the benefits of digital notebooks in open and responsible research.”
Co-Investigator Andrew Porter, from the Manchester Institute, added: “We are keen to make digital notebooks widely accessible to researchers, fostering reproducible and responsible research practices.”
Manchester PhD Researcher Named in Women in FinTech Powerlist
Innovate Finance has unveiled its annual Women in FinTech Powerlist, recognising outstanding contributions to the sector. Among the honourees is Chloe Fox-Robertson, a PhD researcher in Geography at the University of Manchester.
Expressing her gratitude, Chloe said: “I’m honoured to be featured alongside such accomplished women. I hope this recognition amplifies my impact and inspires young women from diverse backgrounds to explore careers in FinTech.”
Manchester Professor Named Archaeologist of the Year
Professor Joyce Tyldesley OBE has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Archaeologist of the Year title, an honour determined by readers of Current Archaeology magazine.
Dr Nicky Nielsen, Senior Lecturer in Egyptology at the University of Manchester, praised her contributions, stating: “Professor Tyldesley has shaped Egyptian archaeology studies in Manchester for decades, alongside her extensive outreach and scholarly work.”
In response to her win, Professor Tyldesley said: “I am deeply honoured to receive this award. This recognition belongs to my incredible team at the University of Manchester, dedicated to making history accessible to all.”
The University of Manchester continues to make a significant impact in research, archaeology, and financial technology, reinforcing its position as a leader in academic excellence in the UK.
