UTAS’s Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) provides access to world-class facilities and mentorship from globally recognised professionals, preparing students for careers in fisheries, aquaculture, marine biology, and beyond. The programme emphasises hands-on learning, including study trips to major fisheries and seafood industries, along with opportunities to engage with international partner organisations.

With no strict application deadline, prospective students are encouraged to apply 2.5 to 3 months before the course begins. Tuition fees are approximately $94,813 AUD. Semester 1 starts on 24 February 2025, and Semester 2 on 21 July 2025.

Eligibility requires a relevant bachelor’s degree, such as a Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Science or an equivalent qualification. Applicants must also meet English language proficiency requirements, with minimum IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE scores specified in the entry criteria.

The programme offers four specialisations: Governance and Policy, Fisheries Management, Sustainable Aquaculture, and Marine Biology. In the second year, students can undertake either a one-year research project or a professional stream, equipping them with practical skills for successful careers in marine and Antarctic sciences.
