The election celebrates their pioneering work across biomedical and health sciences, including advances in diagnostics, cardiovascular medicine, neuroscience, and vaccinology.

The newly appointed Fellows include:

  • Professor Charalambos Antoniades, a leading expert in cardiovascular medicine and Director of the Acute Multidisciplinary Imaging and Interventional Centre.
  • Professor Simon Draper, Professor of Vaccinology and Translational Medicine, who is known for his cutting-edge work on malaria vaccine development.
  • Professor Matt Higgins, a structural biologist and EP Abraham Chair of Structural Biology.
  • Professor Dame Molly Stevens, a bionanoscientist whose innovations focus on equitable access to healthcare technologies.
  • Professor Naomi Wray, Chair of Neuroscience in Psychiatric Genomics.

The United Kingdom continues to lead in global health research, and this development further cements Oxford’s pivotal role in driving scientific breakthroughs with real-world impact.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Draper expressed gratitude to his team, stating, “Malaria continues to affect the world’s poorest. This recognition is testament to the tireless efforts of my research team and collaborators working to deliver innovative vaccine solutions.”

Professor Stevens added, “Our mission is to ensure that diagnostic and therapeutic innovations are accessible, affordable, and effective for use in low-resource settings. I’m honoured to join the Academy and champion equitable healthcare.”

Election to the Academy of Medical Sciences is a mark of excellence in medical science, and these appointments highlight the UK’s continued commitment to global health advancement.

With these new additions, Oxford University strengthens its reputation as a global hub for cutting-edge research and medical innovation.
