The University of Strathclyde, based in Glasgow, Scotland, is now accepting applications for its one-year MRes in Mathematical Sciences course, set to commence in September 2025.

This research-intensive master’s degree offers international students a chance to build a strong foundation in advanced mathematics and statistics, while also gaining hands-on experience through an extended original research project. The programme is ideal for students considering a PhD or research-based roles in academia or industry.

Applicants will be able to work across key research areas, including:

  • Applied & Computational Mathematics
  • Data Science & Statistics
  • Mathematical & Stochastic Analysis
  • Mathematics of Life Sciences

To be eligible, candidates must hold a first-class or upper second-class UK Honours degree, or an international equivalent, in a mathematics-related field. Additionally, proof of English proficiency is required, with a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, and no individual component below 5.5.

The international tuition fee for the 2025/26 academic session is £23,100. However, the Faculty of Science is offering scholarships worth £5,000 to outstanding international applicants, making the course more accessible to global talent.

The MRes Mathematical Sciences is tailored for those with a strong interest in mathematical theory and application, especially those aiming to pursue careers in Research & Development or further doctoral studies. Taught modules will complement students’ research work, helping them develop a comprehensive understanding of mathematical sciences and analytical thinking.

The University of Strathclyde is internationally recognised for its contributions to applied research and innovation, and the programme offers an opportunity to engage with experts across a wide range of mathematical disciplines.

Applications are open now for the September 2025 intake, and early submissions are encouraged due to high demand and limited scholarship availability.
