The Duolingo English Test (DET), in collaboration with the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, has announced the opening of applications for its DETermined Scholarship, which aims to support Indian women pursuing careers in STEM fields at U.S. universities.

The scholarship offers a one-time grant of USD 30,000 to eligible Indian women enrolling in full-time undergraduate or postgraduate STEM programmes in the United States for the Spring 2026 intake. Applications are now open via the Manthan portal, with the deadline set for 30 June 2025.

The initiative is part of Duolingo’s commitment to promoting equitable access to global education and is focused on empowering Indian women to become future STEM leaders.

Tara Kapur, India Market Lead for the Duolingo English Test, commented:

“The DETermined Scholarship is more than financial aid – it’s a launchpad for talented Indian women in STEM to access global opportunities and drive innovation. We invite aspiring women across India to apply and take the next step towards shaping the future.”

To qualify, applicants must:

Be Indian citizens currently residing in India.

Be women with at least 60% in science subjects from a recognised Indian institution.

Hold a DET score of 120 or higher.

Intend to pursue a full-time STEM course in the U.S. (UG or PG level) starting Spring 2026.

Demonstrate leadership, a commitment to solving societal challenges, and a vision to contribute to India’s innovation ecosystem upon return.

Have aspirations to transform ideas into scalable startups.

Selected candidates will be announced in September 2025, with scholarship disbursal scheduled by Spring 2026.

The move further strengthens India’s growing STEM presence abroad while encouraging women’s participation in global academic spaces.
