Abbotsholme School in Staffordshire, United Kingdom, has unveiled an elite football and education programme in collaboration with the Institute of Football Academy (IOF Academy), designed to nurture the next generation of footballers while delivering top-quality academics.

Set to launch in September 2025, the programme targets students aged 13 to 19, both from the UK and overseas, offering a dual pathway combining GCSEs, A-Levels, and NCUK Foundation qualifications with advanced football training.

Students enrolled in the programme will benefit from academy-style coaching, tailored development plans, and the opportunity to earn FA coaching and scouting certifications—laying the groundwork for careers not only on the pitch but across the wider sports industry, including sports science, media, and scouting.

The initiative also supports students aspiring to secure sports scholarships in US universities, with expert mentorship throughout the process.

Founded in 2007, the IOF Academy has a proven track record, having helped over 100 players sign with professional clubs and more than 1,000 secure soccer scholarships at top international institutions.

Russ Hullett, IOF Academy co-founder and former coach for Manchester United and Aston Villa, said, “This partnership is about delivering a professional-level experience to young footballers and opening genuine global pathways.”

Matthew Hird, chief international officer at Abbotsholme School, added, “We are excited to offer elite football coaching alongside our first-class academic provision. It’s about inspiring young players to achieve on and off the field.”

Students will have the option to attend as day pupils or full boarders and will compete under the IOF Mavericks Football Club, based on the school campus. Facilities include a full-size 3G pitch, FIFA-standard grass pitches, and a high-performance gym.

With its strong academic offering, specialist English as an Additional Language (EAL) support, and pastoral care, Abbotsholme aims to become a global hub for aspiring footballers seeking a holistic education in the UK.
