The University of Southern California (USC) has announced the launch of a new undergraduate programme in Artificial Intelligence, marking a major step towards preparing students for the future of technology and innovation.

The Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (BSAI) will be jointly offered by the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and the USC School of Advanced Computing. The programme will welcome its first cohort at the University Park Campus in Fall 2026, with applications now open through the Common Application system.

Designed in collaboration with three key departments – the Thomas Lord Department of Computer Science, the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Daniel J Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering – the course will equip students with a strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, and computer science.

The curriculum offers three specialised tracks: Computing Foundations and Applications, focusing on AI algorithms and areas like robotics, natural language processing, and computer vision; Computer Engineering, Signal Processing, and Controls, with an emphasis on AI-enabled hardware and systems; and AI Systems and Operations Engineering, designed for applying AI in large-scale data and business process environments.

Students will also gain practical exposure by engaging in research at USC’s leading centres, including the Institute for Creative Technologies, the Information Sciences Institute, the Centre for Generative AI, and the Centre for Ethics and Trust in Computing. In addition, they will be able to join co-curricular groups such as CAIS++, the student organisation under the Centre for AI in Society.

Beyond technical knowledge, the programme highlights the ethical dimensions of AI, ensuring graduates are equipped to address both opportunities and challenges that AI poses globally.

With AI continuing to transform industries worldwide, the United States is positioning itself at the forefront of education and innovation through initiatives like USC’s BSAI. The degree promises to attract international talent, offering students the chance to study in the US while preparing for cutting-edge careers in one of the fastest-growing fields.
