Harvard Announces 2025 Rowland Fellowship for Young Scientists and Engineers

The Rowland Institute, based at Harvard University, is encouraging young scientists and engineers to apply for the Rowland Fellowship. This fellowship supports the establishment of new independent research groups in Cambridge, Massachusetts, by providing lab space, seed funding, and guidance. Candidates should be within one to two years of completing their PhD or have completed their PhD on or after 1 May 2023.
The fellowship lasts up to five years, with a potential start date between September and December 2025. Applications can be submitted through the Rowland website.
Rowland Fellowships 2025: Application Details
- Application Deadline: 16 August 2024
- Required Documents:
- 250-Word “Elevator Pitch”: A brief statement describing the proposed research in simple terms that a layperson can understand.
- Statement of Research: Research findings should not exceed three pages.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Vision Statement: A clear, one-page document detailing your vision for developing a positive organisational culture within the lab. It is advisable to reflect on how your personal values and academic experiences are integrated into this plan.
- Contact Information for References: Include phone numbers and email addresses for three to four references. Electronic invitations will be sent to request recommendation letters, with a submission deadline of 3 September 2024.
Interview Process:
- Mid-October 2024: Interview invitations will be extended to successful applicants.
- 13-14 November 2024: Applicants will be required to provide a concise symposium-style presentation of their previous and planned work, followed by interviews with staff and current Rowland Fellows.
Selection Decisions:
Final decisions will be made in December 2024, and candidates will be notified accordingly.
Eligibility:
Applicants should be in the process of writing their thesis or have defended their thesis no earlier than May 2023. A PhD is expected to be awarded by the time the fellowship begins, although some candidates may not have received their PhD at the time of application.
