As a recent development, the German government has recently agreed to raise PoF, proof of funds, for the academic year 2024-25. For students planning to start their study abroad in Germany, the Technical University of Munich has a special message.

As described on the Technical University of Munich’s website, starting with the winter semester of 2024-25, international students enrolling in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree course from a non-EEA country are bound to pay tuition fees.

However, at the same time as this update for international students from non-EEA countries, it was affirmed that studying at TUM will remain tuition-free for students from Germany, the European Economic Area, or equivalent states and for students who have received their higher education entrance qualification or an undergraduate degree in the German education system or in a state which has a similar agreement with Germany.

Technical University of Munich is a well-known public university located in Munich, Germany, with an overall ranking of 28 in QS World University Rankings 2025. One of the leading public universities in the land has adopted tuition fees for international learners. It would be interesting to know whether other public universities will follow the same example.

The German government has recently raised the POF to the 2024-25 academic year and above, as discussed below. The requirements for the next academic year will be €11,904 (US$12,875), a 6% increase from the previous level of €11,208 (US$12,135), as posted in ICEF Monitor.

According to the Technical University of Munich’s official site, the cost of tuition per semester for Bachelor’s and Master’s programs ranges from 2,000 – 3,000 euros and 4,000- 6,000 euros, respectively, for international students.
