Indian Student Enrollment in Germany Hits Record High, Up 15% This Year

Germany remains one of India’s favourite destinations for students, and the number of Indian students is increasing each year. According to a press release from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) regional office in New Delhi, India emerged as the largest international community in Germany in the previous academic year, with numbers growing by over 100 per cent in the last five years.

Recent data from the Federal Statistical Office of Germany shows that the influx of Indian students has increased by 15%. With a consistent rise of 1% over the past year, the total number of Indian students for the Winter Semester 2023-2024 is 49,483.

Currently, Indian students constitute the largest group of foreign students in German universities. Figures from Germany’s Federal Statistical Office confirm that 60% of Indian students are enrolled in engineering courses, 21% in law, management, and social sciences, and 13% in mathematics and natural sciences.
