China-Africa Forum Showcases Groundbreaking Initiatives in Higher Education

China has pledged to enhance its support for fostering partnerships between Chinese and African universities, as well as to increase the number of teachers and share digital educational resources to help modernise Africa’s education system.
These commitments were announced at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which takes place every three years in Beijing and is attended by heads of state from African nations and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission.
This year’s meeting was noted as the largest gathering of African and Chinese leaders since the COVID-19 pandemic, featuring 53 leaders from various African countries.
One significant outcome of the meeting, held from 4th to 6th September, was the approval of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation – Beijing Action Plan (2025-2027), which outlines the strategic directions for cooperation in priority areas over the next three years.
Zhu Ming, an assistant research fellow at the Centre for West-Asian and African Studies at the Shanghai Institute for International Studies and a visiting research fellow at the University of Johannesburg, commented that this year’s forum showcased a higher level of detailed implementation plans with more specific goals compared to those established three years ago.
Looking ahead, Zhu stated that China and Africa aim to explore new fields of collaboration, highlighting that artificial intelligence holds significant promise for future developments, as reported by University World News.
