A ‘real rush’ of applications has recently been reported from international students applying to London Metropolitan University, suggesting a potential rebound in recruitment.
The figures indicate a typical surge as the application cycle comes to a close. In a recent interview, Gary Davies, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of London Metropolitan, noted a marked increase in applications from overseas students.

Davies stated, “I’m happy to report that we have received a real rush of approximately 1,000 applications in the last couple of weeks.” He added, “This activity feels more significant than usual due to the dip in applications earlier in the cycle. Of course, the challenge now will be to process these applications and ensure compliance in time for a September start.”

He attributed the increase in applications to the “tactics” adopted by London Metropolitan, particularly the introduction of scholarships and deposit schemes, which he believes have played a key role in attracting students.

“But we also hope this is an early sign of recovery, as our recruitment partners have indicated for the spring,” he remarked. “We are optimistic that, with the new government’s more welcoming stance towards international students, we can return to healthier enrolment numbers in the future.”

The UK has recently witnessed the emergence of a new Labour government after 14 years of Conservative rule. Previously, the government’s approach to international students was more hostile, conducting a review of the Graduate Route and imposing a ban on overseas undergraduate students bringing dependents into the country.

New Education Minister Bridget Phillipson has repeatedly assured that overseas students will receive a warm welcome under the Labour government. In June, she recorded a video for prospective international students, highlighting the benefits of the Graduate Route and emphasising the quality of education in Britain.
