Monash University in Australia has signed an agreement with India’s Apollo Hospitals to collaborate on digital health research, aiming to advance healthcare technology and improve patient care in both countries. Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Monash University’s Faculty of Information Technology will share technology and data with Apollo Hospitals and provide training sessions for Apollo’s healthcare professionals. In return, Monash students will gain practical, hands-on experience at Apollo Hospitals, enhancing their learning through real-world applications.

Professor Chris Bain, Digital Health lead at Monash, emphasised the significance of the partnership, describing it as an “opportunity to implement first-ever digital health projects in Australia, drawing on Apollo Hospitals’ extensive practical experience.” Dr Sujoy Kar from Apollo Hospitals added that the collaboration would advance their work in clinical AI and bolster their global impact on healthcare technology.

In a related initiative, Monash’s Faculty of IT is partnering with Australian company Optiscan to develop AI-driven gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopes designed to reduce cancer screening times. The system, led by Associate Professor Zongyuan Ge, will use artificial intelligence to detect and analyse abnormal cells in real time, enabling immediate intervention.

Optiscan’s CEO, Dr Camile Farah, described the collaboration with Monash as a significant advancement in diagnosing and treating GI diseases, noting that it represents another milestone in the longstanding relationship between Optiscan and Monash University.
