Arizona State University (ASU), United States has been named a Fulbright Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) Leader for the third year, a prestigious recognition awarded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. ASU is one of 50 institutions in the United States, and one of 28 doctoral-granting universities, to receive this honour.

The Fulbright HSI Leader designation recognises ASU’s efforts in two key areas: facilitating student and faculty participation in the renowned Fulbright Programme and providing dedicated services to the Hispanic community. ASU’s commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion aligns with the core mission of the Fulbright Programme, which aims to promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding.

Kyle Mox, Associate Dean of National Scholarship Advisement at ASU, highlighted how the university’s demographic diversity strengthens its Fulbright applicants. “By encouraging our students to apply, we provide Fulbright with a broad range of backgrounds, as well as life stories,” he said. ASU’s diverse student body contributes to the Fulbright mission of inclusivity, underscoring the university’s achievements.

Nancy Gonzales, ASU’s Executive Vice President and Provost, also expressed pride in the university’s continued success, emphasising ASU’s global impact. “Being recognised for the third consecutive year demonstrates our ongoing commitment to promoting global exchange and scholarship opportunities for underrepresented students and scholars,” she said.

In addition to this achievement, 16 ASU students are set to participate in the 2024 Breakthrough, Innovative, and Game-changing (BIG) Idea Challenge, a NASA-sponsored competition that will further prepare them for careers in aerospace.
