Oxford University, a leading institution in the UK, has established the Ashall Professorship of the Foundations of Artificial Intelligence following a significant donation from Michael and Hilary Ashall. Renowned AI researcher Professor Michael Wooldridge has been named the inaugural holder of this prestigious position.

Professor Wooldridge expressed his gratitude: “I could never have imagined being the recipient of such an honour – to be the first holder of this academic position. I am delighted, humbled, and profoundly grateful.”

Michael Ashall shared his inspiration for supporting the university, highlighting the transformative potential of education and research. “Supporting Oxford’s drive towards revolutionary discoveries in AI and medicine is not just an investment in knowledge but a contribution to the well-being of future generations,” he said, citing the university’s success in vaccine development as a motivating factor.

Professor Jim Naismith, Head of Oxford’s Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division (MPLS), praised the Ashalls’ vision. “Their gift ensures that Oxford continues to attract, nurture, and retain the best minds in science and technology for the benefit of society,” he remarked.
