Michigan State University (MSU), United States, is set to honour over 4,000 graduates during its fall commencement ceremonies, scheduled from 13 to 14 December 2024. The graduates, representing all 50 US states, 73 of Michigan’s 83 counties, and 66 countries, reflect the diverse and global reach of the institution.

MSU President Kevin M. Guskiewicz, PhD, congratulated the graduating class, saying, ‘It’s a pleasure to recognise our graduates for their accomplishments at Michigan State as they prepare for the next chapter in their lives. They go forth well-prepared for the careers in front of them and for lives of engagement and purpose’.

The ceremonies will include the conferral of master’s, doctoral, and educational specialist degrees. Accomplished leaders and influential figures will address the graduates, marking the significance of their achievements and inspiring them as they move forward.

In related news, MSU researchers have made advancements in improving medical implant acceptance in the human body. The team, led by Ashley Makela from the MSU Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering, discovered that a metabolic inhibitor drug can reduce immune rejection of implants like pacemakers, replacement joints, and dental implants. Makela highlighted, ‘Our findings have significant implications for improving patient recovery times and reducing complications like chronic inflammation’.

Additionally, MSU’s Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education will be renamed the Farm Bureau Pavilion following a gift agreement with the Michigan Farm Bureau Family of Companies. President Guskiewicz noted, ‘We consider this facility to be MSU’s Breslin Centre for agriculture. It’s fitting that the name reflects our respected partners’.

The fall ceremonies mark an important milestone, as Michigan State University continues to celebrate its global community and ongoing innovations.
