Global Institute for Women’s Leadership Joins King’s Business School

The Global Institute for Women’s Leadership (GIWL) has now become part of King’s Business School in London,UK with Professor Heejung Chung appointed as its new Director. Based in the United Kingdom, the institute continues its mission to address systemic issues affecting women’s leadership and rights in the workforce.

Professor Chung, an expert in Work and Employment, emphasised the urgency of GIWL’s mission in light of rising threats to women’s rights. She stated, “It’s not just about helping a few reach top positions, but about changing problematic structures in our labour market and society to create an environment where women and marginalised communities can thrive. This way, society as a whole, including men, can benefit.”

Professor Stephen Bach, Executive Dean of King’s Business School, expressed pride in the institute’s integration, highlighting its potential to drive impactful change. He noted, “King’s Business School has long been connected with GIWL, and I am very proud that we will be advancing its development and providing innovative research on the future of women’s leadership under Heejung’s leadership and GIWL Chair Julia Gillard.”

In related news from the United Kingdom, Professor Sir Bashir M. Al-Hashimi, Vice President for Research & Innovation at King’s College London, has been knighted in the New Year Honours 2025 for his contributions to engineering and education. King’s College London’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shitij Kapur, praised Sir Bashir’s achievements, stating, “His work is inspiring, balancing technical achievements with good citizenship and significantly contributing to increasing diversity in the engineering profession.”

This integration of GIWL into King’s Business School and Sir Bashir’s knighthood underscore King’s College London’s commitment to leadership, diversity, and innovation in both education and research.
