La Trobe University Vice-Chancellor Strengthens Ties with India on Third Visit

New Delhi, India – La Trobe University Vice-Chancellor Professor Theo Farrell is in India for his third visit since February 2024, reinforcing the strong academic ties between India and Australia. His visit marks an effort to expand educational collaborations and enhance student exchange opportunities between the two nations.

During his trip, Professor Farrell participated in the QS India Summit 2025 in Goa, where he joined a panel discussion chaired by Dr Vidya Yeravdekar, Pro-Chancellor of Symbiosis International University. The session, hosted by the SRM Institute of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education, focused on building resilient educational institutions amid global uncertainties.

Expressing his enthusiasm for strengthening partnerships, Professor Farrell stated, “I am delighted to be visiting India again and look forward to deepening La Trobe’s existing partnerships with esteemed Indian universities and industries, while forging new ones.” He highlighted La Trobe’s contributions in bio-innovation, health, technology, and sustainable agriculture, including collaborations with the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) and the Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre (BBC).

As part of his visit, Professor Farrell will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of La Trobe’s academic partnership with Lady Shri Ram College for Women in Delhi on January 31, 2025. The milestone event will commemorate three decades of student exchange and research collaboration between the Australian university and the prestigious Indian institution.

Looking ahead, the Vice-Chancellor expressed his commitment to expanding student mobility between India and Australia. “I am excited at the prospect of exploring further learning opportunities for students in India and in Australia via joint educational partnerships,” he added.

With India emerging as a key destination for global education partnerships, La Trobe University’s continued engagement highlights the growing synergy between Indian and Australian higher education institutions.
