Dubai, UAE – The UAE’s Minister of Education, Sarah Al Amiri, met with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo on 14 January at the Zayed Educational Complex in Dubai to explore future collaborations in education and strengthen bilateral ties.

Marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the UAE and Finland, the meeting focused on fostering innovation in education through the exchange of best practices in curriculum design, teaching methodologies, and teacher training programmes.

Prime Minister Orpo highlighted the UAE’s rapid development and ambitious goals in areas such as digitalisation and climate change mitigation, emphasising that Finland’s expertise can play a key role in advancing these national priorities. “This trip demonstrated that Finnish companies have even more expertise to offer in these critical areas than before,” he said.

As the UAE is the largest destination for Finnish exports in the Gulf and Middle East, its Ministry of Education aims to leverage Finland’s highly regarded education system to enhance its own.
Ashwin Assomull, partner at L.E.K. Consulting, reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to adopting global best practices. “The UAE consistently benchmarks and integrates the finest international education models, including Finland’s, to build a world-class system,” Assomull stated.

During the visit, Minister Al Amiri led the Finnish delegation on a tour of the Zayed Educational Complex, showcasing its cutting-edge facilities, including advanced laboratories, modern classrooms, and creative spaces. These features reflect the UAE’s vision to drive innovation and sustainability in education.

With the world’s largest network of private schools, the UAE continues to invest in research and higher education, further solidifying its position as a regional leader in academic excellence. The collaboration with Finland is expected to strengthen ties and introduce innovative practices in both countries.
