Purdue University’s Computer Science Program Ranks 13th in the US

Purdue University’s computer science programme, located in the United States, has secured 13th place in the latest CSRankings, standing out among more than 200 programmes across the country.
The rankings assess universities based on their research impact in key computer science fields, including machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, networks, and software engineering.

Academic Excellence and Research Leadership

Professor Petros Drineas, Head of Purdue’s Department of Computer Science, highlighted the university’s legacy in cybersecurity and its pioneering role in AI and machine learning research.
“Purdue’s computer science graduate programme is renowned for its excellence in critical fields such as cybersecurity, AI, and machine learning,” said Drineas. “Our research centres are driving technological advancements that will shape the future of automation, intelligent systems, and digital security.”

Advancing Additive Manufacturing

Beyond computer science, Purdue researchers at the Purdue Applied Research Institute (PARI) are innovating in additive manufacturing by developing 3D printing methods for dark ceramics. This cutting-edge research aims to produce complex ceramic structures for high-tech applications.

Matthew Thompson, a doctoral candidate in materials engineering, and Dylan Crump, a research engineer, are leading efforts to refine surface modifications and enhance printing precision.

“We are optimising materials and testing processes to improve their performance,” said Thompson. “Our goal is to create a framework that helps stakeholders accelerate their own research and development.”

Professor Rodney Trice, an expert in ceramic processing at PARI’s Hypersonics Advanced Manufacturing Technology Centre (HAMTC), emphasised the breakthrough’s significance.

“This method allows us to produce intricate designs with micron-level precision,” said Trice. “We have successfully printed sharp cones and hemispheres, which are crucial components in hypersonic vehicle development.”

The project is funded by the Office of the Secretary of Defense in collaboration with the Naval Surface Warfare Centre and the National Security Technology Accelerator.
