University of Melbourne Welcomes 2025 Hansen Scholars

The University of Melbourne, Australia has officially welcomed 23 high-achieving students as part of its 2025 Hansen Scholars cohort. This prestigious undergraduate scholarship supports academically outstanding students facing financial and other barriers to higher education in Australia.

Now in its sixth year, the Hansen Scholarship remains the university’s most generous undergraduate funding programme, offering recipients full financial support, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.

Empowering Future Leaders

Jane Hansen AO, Programme Patron and University of Melbourne Chancellor, emphasised the scholarship’s mission of equal opportunity in education.

“Supporting young people to access university based on merit, not financial means, remains a key focus of our Hansen Little Foundation,” she said. “These bright young Australians have not only achieved outstanding academic results but have also demonstrated a genuine commitment to their communities.”

She added that the programme has already demonstrated its impact, enabling students to excel academically and pursue ambitious careers after graduation.

Scholarship Benefits and Ceremony

The Hansen Scholars will receive comprehensive support for the entire duration of their undergraduate studies, including:

  • Full tuition funding
  • Living allowance
  • Mentorship and pastoral care
  • Career, academic, and cultural development opportunities

At a special ceremony, the University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emma Johnston, along with Jane Hansen, presented certificates to the selected scholars.

The 2025 Hansen Scholars come from diverse backgrounds across Australia, including Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and the Australian Capital Territory.
