Three distinguished professors from the University of Houston (UH) have been named Senior Members of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), bringing the university’s total NAI faculty members to 39.

The newly honoured professors are Francisco Robles Hernandez, Megan Robertson, and Birol Dindoruk. This prestigious recognition highlights their contributions to research, innovation, and real-world technological advancements.

Ramanan Krishnamoorti, UH’s Vice President for Energy and Innovation, congratulated the professors, stating, “This recognition is a testament to their dedication, research excellence, and pursuit of real-world impact. Their achievements continue to elevate the University as a leader in innovation and entrepreneurship.”

Robertson, expressing gratitude for the honour, acknowledged the support of UH’s Cullen College and her research team, saying, “It’s a great honour to be included among the NAI Senior Members. I look forward to continuing to innovate and invent new technologies in polymer circularity.”

Robles Hernandez, equally proud of the achievement, remarked, “As an inventor, this is one of the highest honours you can receive. UH has been instrumental in supporting my research, but it’s the creativity of the students that makes it successful.”

In another major development, the Energy Transition Institute (ETI) at UH has announced its inaugural “Coogs for Energy Hackathon”, aimed at fostering innovation in the energy sector.

Debalina Sengupta, ETI’s COO and event designer, highlighted the initiative’s goal, stating, “By involving the community in identifying energy issues and empowering students to work with mentors, we are preparing the next generation workforce.”

Students at UH have welcomed the event. Senior Catherine Hohulin from the C.T. Bauer College of Business expressed excitement, saying, “It’s one thing to learn about the industry in theory, but tackling real-world energy challenges is a whole different level.”
