The University of Leeds, England, has announced the opening of applications for its MSc in Sustainable Agriculture & Food Production, designed to prepare future leaders in sustainable food systems. The application deadline for the course is 31st July 2025.

This programme focuses on equipping students with skills to tackle global challenges in sustainable farming, food security, and environmental sustainability. It combines cutting-edge research, industry collaboration, and practical exposure.

Scholarship & Course Fee

Indian students enrolling in the programme will receive a £6,000 International Masters Regional Scholarship. The total tuition fee for the course is £31,250 (approximately INR 33,98,975). The duration of the course is 12 months.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2:1 honours.
  • Possess a first-class bachelor’s degree from an Indian university in relevant fields such as environmental science, biology, biochemistry, food science, agriculture, crop science, or soil science.

Access to a 300-Acre Research Farm

A key feature of the MSc programme is its access to the University of Leeds’ 300-acre Research Farm. Students will gain hands-on experience in sustainable farming techniques, agroforestry, livestock management, and environmental monitoring. The farm includes diverse agricultural landscapes such as arable crops, agroforestry plots, and sheep grazing areas.

A university statement highlighted the growing significance of sustainable agriculture and food production due to three major challenges: rising environmental pressures, an expanding global population, and climate change.

The MSc Sustainable Agriculture & Food Production programme leverages the university’s expertise in sustainable agricultural research and is supported by the Global Food and Environment Institute. This interdisciplinary and research-led approach will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the evolving food production landscape.

The UK continues to be a top destination for Indian students, and the University of Leeds’ initiative further strengthens academic ties between India and the UK while addressing pressing sustainability challenges in global food systems.
