Three academics from the University of Bristol, England, have been honoured with the prestigious Senior Investigator status by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). Professor Martin emphasised his commitment to advancing healthcare research, saying:

“I am honoured to be selected as an NIHR Senior Investigator for a second term. Through this role, I will continue supporting NHS and social care research, expanding industry–academic partnerships, and promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion.”

Professor Macdonald highlighted the growing importance of social work research, stating:

“I’m pleased to see NIHR’s recognition of research in social work and social care. This award will allow me to further support NIHR’s efforts in building research capacity within the sector.”

NIHR’s Commitment to Healthcare Research

The NIHR plays a crucial role in advancing health and social care research in the UK. It collaborates with universities, the NHS, local governments, and research funders to drive innovation, economic growth, and improved healthcare outcomes. The NIHR Academy also focuses on career development, academic training, and research capacity building in the health and care sectors.
