Imperial College London has announced plans to establish a new global hub in Bengaluru, India, set to open in May 2025. The initiative, named Imperial Global India, aims to strengthen academic, scientific, and innovation ties between the UK and India, while fostering collaboration in critical areas such as AI, biotechnology, semiconductors, and advanced materials.

Ranked as the top university in the UK and the second-best globally in the latest QS World University Rankings, Imperial is leveraging its reputation to expand its international footprint. The new hub will be led by Professor Sanjeev Gupta and Dr Elena Dieckmann.

Professor Hugh Brady, President of Imperial College London, stated, “Imperial Global India will be a launchpad for powerful new collaborations in research, innovation, and education between the UK and India.” He emphasised the goal of tackling global challenges and driving sustainable economic growth through cutting-edge science and technology partnerships.

Dr Elena Dieckmann highlighted the potential of working closely with India’s dynamic innovation ecosystem. “The vision for Imperial Global India is incredibly exciting—especially the opportunity to co-create with India’s entrepreneurs and bring early discovery science into practical, real-world solutions,” she said.

Professor Sanjeev Gupta added, “India is buzzing with scientific creativity. Our aim is to build deep and sustainable connections with academic and industry partners, particularly in emerging technologies and climate solutions.”

Alongside its India expansion, Imperial is also deepening ties with the United States. Through its new Quantum ICoNYCh project, supported by the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), Imperial is collaborating with leading scientists from Chicago and New York to advance research in quantum science. Two international workshops, held in March 2025, have already fostered strong collaborative momentum.

Professor Peter Haynes of Imperial’s QuEST Centre noted, “The ICoNYCh project has exceeded expectations in seeding promising transatlantic collaborations.”

Imperial’s growing global network underlines its commitment to advancing science, education, and innovation across borders—especially in India and the US.
