Dr Pablo Poggi, a physics research fellow at the University of Strathclyde, has been awarded the prestigious Quantum Technology Career Acceleration Fellowship by the UKRI Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). This highly competitive fellowship supports promising researchers working in the field of quantum technologies across the UK.

The fellowship will enable Dr Poggi to lead a long-term research programme exploring both the fundamental nature of quantum mechanics and its real-world applications. His work will focus on harnessing the effects of chaos in quantum computing – a vital step in enhancing error mitigation, quantum sensing, and validating quantum computer operations.

“I am honoured to have been selected as an EPSRC Quantum Fellow,” said Dr Poggi. “This fellowship is a game-changer for my career. It will help me build a research team within Strathclyde’s thriving Department of Physics and collaborate with industry and academic partners across the UK and internationally.”

Professor Charlotte Deane, Executive Chair of EPSRC, said:

“By investing in the most promising researchers, we are not only boosting quantum skills but also strengthening the research base in the United Kingdom. This is vital to ensure the UK remains a global leader in quantum technologies.”

In addition to Dr Poggi’s recognition, the University of Strathclyde has also been shortlisted in four categories at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards, including the coveted University of the Year title. Based on student reviews, the awards reflect the University’s dedication to delivering an exceptional student experience.

Professor Sir Jim McDonald, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University, commented:

“Our students’ satisfaction is central to our mission. Their positive reviews affirm the outstanding education and support we provide to prepare them for future success.”

These developments reinforce the UK’s commitment to advancing research in quantum science and highlight the University of Strathclyde’s growing reputation in both academia and student satisfaction.
