Georgia emerges as the new favourite study abroad destination for medical students over taking Ukraine amidst the war with Russia.

There has been a significant change in the preference of Indian medical aspirants as they now have started preferring Georgia for their medical studies over Ukraine, while Russia still remains a strong option.

According to data released by the Reserve Bank of India, there has been a prominent shift in remittance that Indians sent for education in Georgia in 2024-25 around $50.25 million, which marks nearly a fivefold increase from $10.33 million in 2018-19.

It is due to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia that the ongoing war like situations have made Indian students shifting their educational preferences to a more secured nation. While Ukraine is not a reliable option anymore, many Indian students are still preferring to study MBBS in Russia in cities that are far from boarders and war-affected areas.

It is Russia’s affordable education, globally recognised degrees, and renowned universities that’s making Indian students to pick this nation over any other.

Talking about studying MBBS in Georgia, Indian students are preferring this new nation because of the several benefits attached here. Georgia has been a great option for physiotherapy and paramedical courses with degrees being recognised globally.

Why Georgia has effectively become a promising destination to study MBBS abroad for Indian students is because of low tuition fees, English-medium courses, simple visa process, and proximity to Europe.

Industry experts state that the shift towards Georgia for medical aspirants is also because the Georgian universities offer secure living arrangements and post-study employment opportunities. As safety and affordability remains few of the top concerns, Indian students are preferring Georgia over Ukraine.

While the global trends shift from Ukraine to Georgia for Indian medical aspirants, the USA still remains one of the top destinations for studying MBBS abroad.
