Berlin, Germany – Applications are now open for the International Climate Protection Fellowship, offering postdoctoral researchers and emerging climate leaders from transition and developing countries the opportunity to work in Germany for 12 to 24 months. The last date to apply is 1 February 2025.

The fellowship, funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, is designed for international candidates with expertise in climate change research, policy, or practice. The programme aims to foster global collaboration on climate solutions and encourages applications from underrepresented groups and female climate leaders.

Fellowship Benefits

Selected fellows will receive:

  • A monthly stipend of €2,200, €2,500, or €2,700, depending on their career level.
  • Ancillary financial support covering travel expenses, family allowances, private health insurance, and a German language course.
  • Individual mentorship and networking opportunities during their stay in Germany.
  • A three-week introductory event and long-term alumni sponsorship.
  • Host institutions will receive €500 per month for humanities and social science research projects and €800 per month for natural and engineering sciences projects.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be citizens of a non-European transition or developing country.
  • Have strong leadership potential and professional experience in climate-related fields.
  • Possess at least 12 months of relevant work experience if they hold a Master’s degree, or 24 months of professional experience otherwise.
  • Have proficiency in English and/or German.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree obtained within the last 12 years.
