New York University (NYU) has announced its Class of 2029 admissions, with an acceptance rate of just 7.7%—making it one of the most competitive in the university’s history. Out of over 120,000 undergraduate applicants, only a select few have received offers to study at the US-based institution.

Among the most selective undergraduate colleges, the Rory Meyers College of Nursing, Leonard N. Stern School of Business, and the College of Arts and Science admitted fewer than 5% of applicants.

Record-Breaking Early Decision Applications

NYU saw a 10% increase in early decision applications, with more than 25,000 students applying.

“Year after year, we are in awe of the talent and ambition of the many students who aspire to join the NYU community,” said Carol Kim, Vice-President for Global Recruitment, Admissions, and Financial Aid.

Kim emphasised that the incoming students will bring diverse perspectives, groundbreaking research potential, and a commitment to collaboration, enriching the university’s learning environment.

NYU Class of 2029: Diverse and Inclusive

The incoming class represents all 50 US states and 128 countries. Around 1,000 students hail from New York City public schools, while nearly 20% are first-generation university students. Additionally, 20% of the cohort will be Pell Grant recipients, supporting students from lower-income backgrounds.

To ensure financial accessibility, NYU continues to offer ‘The NYU Promise’—a programme ensuring that families earning under $100,000 will not pay tuition. The university also guarantees 100% of demonstrated financial need, with scholarship adjustments to match tuition increases.

With this highly selective intake, NYU further cements its status as one of the most prestigious universities in the US and globally.
