The global technology skills gap is a pressing issue, but a major new partnership between the software giant SAP and Germany’s SRH University is stepping up to the challenge. The two powerhouses have joined forces in a strategic collaboration aimed at equipping the next generation of specialists and managers with essential, real-world digital expertise.

This initiative is far more than a simple academic affiliation; it’s a deep-dive integration of practical SAP skills into university education. The first wave of students, focusing on computer science, have already begun their modules at SRH’s campuses in Heidelberg, Stuttgart, and Munich. They are diving into highly sought-after areas such as the SAP Business Technology Platform, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and crucial data analytics.

Looking ahead, the partnership is set to expand its reach significantly. The plan is to embed these vital skills across a whopping 120-plus degree programmes at SRH locations across Germany, with subjects like business administration and supply chain management next in line. Furthermore, the two organisations are actively developing brand-new Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes tailored precisely to the demands of the SAP ecosystem, catering to both German and international students.

Andre Bechtold, President of SAP Industries & Experiences, hailed the collaboration, stressing its importance in addressing the worldwide shortage of skilled workers within the SAP ecosystem. “Together with SRH University, we are creating practical educational formats that optimally prepare young talent for the demands of the digital economy and open up excellent career prospects for them,” he remarked. This sentiment was echoed by Thorsten Bagschik of SRH University, who views the partnership as a significant milestone for practical higher education, noting that “Education is the key to the future – and to mastering the digital transformation.”

Ultimately, this partnership represents a pivotal, forward-looking commitment to the future workforce. By seamlessly blending cutting-edge industry knowledge from SAP with the robust academic structure of SRH University, students are given a powerful head start. They will graduate not just with a degree, but with tangible, high-demand skills and direct exposure to the corporate world, including potential future involvement with SAP Experience Centres. In a world increasingly driven by digital solutions, the combined effort of SAP and SRH is building a strong, practical foundation for young professionals to thrive in a globally connected working environment.
