In a landmark collaboration, the University of Birmingham and Birmingham City Football Club (BCFC) have entered a strategic partnership that promises to create new opportunities in education, health, and research across the city. This alliance is set to have a profound impact, enhancing opportunities for both institutions and the wider Birmingham community.

The partnership will leverage the combined expertise of the University and BCFC in fields such as medicine, data science, physical performance, rehabilitation, and psychology. It aims to provide job opportunities, internships, and access to the football club’s facilities for the university’s 8,000 staff and approximately 40,000 students.

Professor Adam Tickell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Birmingham, expressed excitement over the collaboration. “We see strong connections with BCFC, and we will work together to help the club advance its mission to become a beacon of excellence for Birmingham on the global stage,” he said. He highlighted the long-established roots of the University in Birmingham, paired with its global outlook, as the foundation for the partnership’s success.

The collaboration also brings exciting prospects for students, particularly those in digital media and communications, who will have the opportunity to work with the football club on various projects. Professor Deborah Longworth, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Education, highlighted the university’s legacy in sports and its ongoing contributions to physical activity, rehabilitation, and sport performance research, including recent successes at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics.

In addition to the partnership with BCFC, the University of Birmingham is further supporting the community by launching a new clinic at Birmingham Law School. This clinic will offer free legal advice to victims of identity or financial fraud, with a focus on helping those affected by scams and fraud-related crimes.

The partnership between the University and BCFC marks a significant step in enhancing Birmingham’s profile as a hub of education, research, and sporting excellence.
