In a significant move to advance digital health and precision medicine, the University of Leicester in the UK, Apollo Hospitals, and Apollo University in India have announced the launch of the Global Research Centre for Digital Health and Precision Medicine (CDHPM).

The official hub for India was inaugurated at the Apollo University campus in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. The collaboration aims to establish the centre as an internationally recognised hub for research across multiple health domains, focusing on improving healthcare delivery through innovative technologies.

Professor Nishan Canagarajah, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester, highlighted the transformative potential of the partnership. “This centre will enable us to build the healthcare of the future, combining the world-leading expertise of both institutions to tackle some of the biggest challenges in health,” he said. He also noted the introduction of cutting-edge degree programmes designed to address the shortage of healthcare expertise in both India and the UK.

Dr Prathap C Reddy, Chancellor of Apollo University and Founding Chairman of Apollo Hospitals, emphasised the centre’s potential to revolutionise healthcare. “The CDHPM will focus on improving disease prediction, prevention, diagnosis, and management for both acute and chronic conditions, with a profound impact on global healthcare,” he stated. He expressed his pride in launching the research centre in his hometown, in partnership with the University of Leicester.

Looking ahead, the two institutions plan to launch several educational programmes in 2025, aimed at addressing the shortage of specialist healthcare professionals in India. These include Masters programmes for junior doctors, as well as courses in computational health data science and mental health nursing.

The collaboration between the University of Leicester and Apollo University marks a major step forward in advancing global healthcare, combining research, education, and innovation to shape the future of medicine.
