The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) have announced the opening of Expressions of Interest (EoI) for their Joint Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme, commencing in July 2026. The initiative strengthens academic collaboration between India and Australia by providing candidates with international research exposure across two world-class institutions.

The joint PhD programme allows candidates to conduct research under the supervision of faculty from both universities while experiencing the academic environments of India and Australia. PhD scholars will spend one year at UQ’s Brisbane campus and three years at IIT Delhi, with access to both institutions’ research facilities, laboratories, and academic resources.

According to the official release, the students will receive fellowships, research travel grants, and relocation support during their studies. Upon successful completion, graduates will be awarded a joint PhD degree from UQ and IIT Delhi. The programme is open to candidates from diverse disciplines, including Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
