University of Toronto Ranks 21st in Global Reputation Rankings 2025

The University of Toronto (U of T), Canada, has secured the 21st spot in the Times Higher Education (THE) World Reputation Rankings 2025, reaffirming its status as Canada’s top-ranked university. The rankings, based on a global survey of scholars, evaluated 300 institutions from 38 countries, placing U of T 12th overall and fourth among public universities in North America.

Trevor Young, U of T’s vice-president and provost, expressed pride in the achievement, stating, “This ranking once again underscores how highly the University of Toronto’s teaching and research are regarded by academics worldwide.”

The survey, conducted between November 2023 and January 2024, gathered over 55,000 responses from 193 countries, solidifying U of T’s reputation as a global academic leader. The university continues to excel across major international rankings, including QS World University Rankings, U.S. News & World Report, and the Academic Ranking of World Universities.

University of Toronto Economist Joins Bank of Canada

Another notable achievement was that Michelle Alexopoulos, a University of Toronto economist, was appointed as the second external deputy governor at the Bank of Canada. She expressed her enthusiasm for the role, saying, “It is an honour to serve the Bank of Canada and all Canadians in this capacity.”

Ettore Damiano, chair of U of T’s Department of Economics, lauded her appointment, calling it a “remarkable achievement” that reflects her cutting-edge research and contributions to monetary policy.

With its strong global reputation and outstanding faculty, Canada’s premier university continues to shine on the world stage, further strengthening its influence in academia and economics.
