The University of Victoria in Canada has announced the launch of its Computing Gateway program at the new West Shore campus, set to open in September 2025. Located in Langford’s Goldstream Village, the campus is currently under construction and aims to provide students with flexible and accessible education in computing-related fields.

Dr LillAnne Jackson, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies at UVic’s ECS Faculty, highlighted the benefits of the program, stating, “The Computing Gateway Program is an excellent route for students interested in computing who want to keep their options open. It offers a collaborative learning environment with strong support systems.”

Dr Mina Hoorfar, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS), emphasised the importance of the initiative, saying, “The new West Shore campus expands opportunities for students to learn within their community. Locally based students can access high-quality education while staying in their home region.”

Program Details

The Computing Gateway program, led by the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, will provide the first two years of study in computing-focused degrees such as Data Science, Computer Science, and Software Engineering. Students will have the flexibility to study full-time or part-time before transferring to the university’s main Gordon Head campus for further studies.

Applications for the September 2025 intake are open until April 15, 2025. The program aims to spark interest in computing fields while allowing students to explore different specialisations before making a final decision.

With this initiative, the University of Victoria strengthens its commitment to expanding educational access in Canada, providing students with hands-on learning and pathways to advanced computing degrees.
