Australia’s Western Sydney University (WSU) is set to establish a campus in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, expanding its international presence. This follows in the footsteps of other Australian institutions such as Deakin University and the University of Wollongong, which have already set up campuses in India. The announcement was made by Australian High Commissioner Philip Green via the social media platform X.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalise the agreement was signed by WSU’s acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Sweeney, and Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, Manoj Kumar Singh. This partnership marks a significant step in strengthening ties between Australia and India in the field of higher education.

Professor Sweeney highlighted the university’s focus on addressing pressing global issues such as sustainable agriculture and food security. The campus will offer a range of programmes, potentially including computer science, business, and engineering, tailored to meet the needs of India’s agritech and technology industries.

WSU’s move into India is part of a broader strategy to build strong educational and research collaborations. The university has previously engaged with state governments, including a discussion with Karnataka officials regarding the establishment of an agricultural university in Bengaluru, which would focus on water management and food processing.

This development further cements Australia’s growing educational influence in India, a country with a rapidly expanding demand for quality higher education. WSU’s campus in Greater Noida is expected to play a vital role in bridging the gap between academic innovation and industry needs, benefiting students in both India and Australia.
